How Transformational Experiences Build Confidence, Resilience, and Future Leaders
At LEI, we believe leadership is nurtured through experiences that challenge people to grow. That’s why we are proud to offer LEI Outward Bound leadership experiences for those seeking to develop and strengthen their leadership skills. In fact, LEI Outward Bound leadership experiences have become a powerful tool for transformation.
This summer, that belief came to life through a partnership with Outward Bound USA. As a result, three local students experienced immersive wilderness expeditions that pushed them beyond their comfort zones. These journeys led them into experiences that fostered confidence, resilience, teamwork, and personal growth, which are at the heart of LEI Outward Bound leadership experiences.
Over the course of nine- and ten-day expeditions, participants backpacked through California’s Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Additionally, they explored the remote canyons of Colorado and Utah through backpacking and whitewater rafting. Far from the routines of everyday life, each day brought unfamiliar terrain, changing conditions, and new challenges. These required teamwork, adaptability, and trust. It is clear that LEI Outward Bound leadership experiences encourage individuals to step into leadership roles under challenging conditions.
Living and traveling together meant sharing responsibilities, making decisions as a group, and supporting one another through every challenge. While participants hiked, paddled, solved problems, and lived together, they learned that every person has a role to play. In addition, they found that success depends on working toward a common goal. Therefore, they returned home with greater confidence, stronger problem-solving skills, and a deeper appreciation for the power of teamwork.
